Amish Market: Healthy food in the Big Apple from Lancaster, Pa.
Apr 18, 2010
If you're looking for a small market with the freshest fruit, and lots of selections, then the Amish Market is the perfect place for you. With three locations in New York -- all of which include offerings from the famous Amish community in Lancaster, Pa. -- you are bound to find one.
It's also the perfect place to grab lunch and pick up some groceries for dinner. Appetizers include edamame, shrimp shumai, squid salad, and seaweed salad.
You wouldn't normally expect an Amish Market to have amazing pizza, but this one does. This is a big draw for shoppers. The pizza is made with the thinnest crust and there are several toppings to pick from. It also comes with a few garlic knots that are very yummy too.
Their mediterranean selection offerings including olive oils, cheeses, dolmades, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, pitas and roasted peppers. They offer rotisserie birds that are nicely seasoned. There is a good selection of cereals, specialty foods and spreads, including several choices of hummus, even a delicious homemade one.
Some of the "featured dishes" include Honey Turkey Sandwich—with brie, peppers, green apple and lettuce. Another dish is the amish grilled chicken wrap—grilled chicken, avocado, green leaf lettuce, roasted peppers, onions and special sauce.
If you're really hungry, don't worry, there are usually lots of different samplings of different foods.
If you want a delivery it is a $15 minimum. Expect to wait at least 45 minutes.
They also offer catering options. Check their website for a catering menu.
