Fairway: Fresh produce, delivered!
May 5, 2010
People come from all parts of the city to shop at Fairway. So get ready to fight the crowds if you come at peak hours. But it's worth it. There are two locations in New York City, one on the Upper West side and one in Harlem.
Fairway is fantastic for fresh produce. Every morning, you will find deals on fruits and vegetables right outside the market. Inside there's even more options. But the produce is the biggest draw. Many people flock to the market for its international choices, including cheeses, beers and chocolates.
Fairway also offers lots of oil and vinegars from all around the world including Spain and Italy. Several selections of pasta range from buckwheat to organic whole-grain. People also rave about the olive bar.
If you’re a meat eater then you found your market. There are several different types of meats, including organic beef Australia, organic pork from Quebec and lots of kosher options.
Coffee beans are also another Fairway must-have. They have beans from all over the world including Columbia, Ethiopia, and Chile. Fairway even has its own coffee brand.
It’s easy to get lost in this store but make it to the second floor for even more treats.
The bakery has excellent artisan breads and the best bagels. They also offer a wide selection of prepared foods for those on the go. It's small enough that you can find what you're looking for but large enough to have everything on your shopping list.
If you're really starving from looking at all the delicious food, there's also a restaurant on the second floor.
It's much cheaper than other area supermarkets. Don't worry if you live far away, because they also deliver: $4 for west-side deliveries between 70th & 79th streets and $6.95 for west-side deliveries between 50th & 69th streets.
HelloIndianapolis Tip: You have to go to experience it but if you can't, order online here. But beware, the website is cumbersome and doesn’t feature many of their products. It’s best to actually go to the store and what an experience you’ll have.
