Corner Bistro: A cheap laid-back burger joint
Sep 1, 2010
Corner Bistro will draw you in with its divvy atmosphere and its burgers. Lines form around the block to get into this popular burger joint.
The joint is one of the last bohemian bars in the Village area and has been serving customers since the earlier part of the century. The original ambience of the bar has been pretty much unchanged. You will spot it immediately with its red neon sign. The place has gotten a lot of press particularly because of its cheap prices. It was voted Best Neighborhood Pub by The New York Press.
The bar draws in a post college crowd and is usually very crowded Friday and Saturday nights. It's extremely cheap for the area. The most expensive items on the menu is the Bistro burger for $6.75--for an eight-ounce slab of juicy grilled beef piled several inches high with melted cheese, bacon and raw onions. The rest of the menu includes, a plain 8oz burger ($5.75), grilled cheese ($3.75), grilled cheese with bacon ($5.50) chili ($5.50), and a BLT sandwich ($5.50). For a health(ier) choice enjoy the grilled chicken sandwich.
The bar is usually packed particularly because of the cheap beers. On-tap beers include Rolling Rock ($2.50), Sam Adams ($3.75), and Rolling Rock ($2.50). This is significantly cheap for the area which beers can go for as high as $10. Bottles include Heineken ($4.50), Brooklyn Lager ($4.50), Amstel Light ($4.50), Brooklyn Lager ($4.50), and Original Sin Cider ($4.50).
To keep a memory of the burgers alive, take home a shirt, cap, Teddy Bear or a mug that says: Corner Bistro (click here).
The bar only accepts cash which should be ok considering the prices of food.
Corner Bistro is also open late which is perfect if you get a late night hankering for a burger and fries. Because let’s face it -- there’s no better way to end the night.
HelloMetro Tip: The lines are usually around the block. They don't take reservations. The best time to come is midweek afternoons.
