Barbes is a festive elegant French-Moroccan restaurant right in the middle of Murray Hill.

Barbès Restaurant is named after the famous Paris neighborhood at the foot of the Sacre-Coeur, also known as the 'little piece of North Africa'.

The restaurant is small and the tables are right next to each other so don't come here if you want to have a deep conversation. It's ideal for a festive birthday or anniversary party dinner.

Do come here to enjoy a glass of wine. White wine glasses include a Sancerre ($11), Pinot Grigio ($9) and reds include a Pinot Noir ($9), A Kasar ($9) and a Shiraz ($10).

It's best to share appetizers with a good of friends. The hummus ($8.75) and the crab cakes ($10.75) are both great choices.

Main dishes include steak au poivre, sirloin steak with green pepper corn sauce served with french fries ($20.75), grilled salmon served with roasted eggplant ($19.75), and grilled bronzini in olive oil, lemon sauce with vegetables ($24.95).

Salads include the Cobb salad-- diced tomato, chicken breast, avocado, eggs, blue cheese & corn ($13.75), Greek Salad---Feta cheese, stuffed grape leaves, romaine lettuce, cucumber & tomato with lemon vinaigrette ($13.75) or the Nicoise Salad--mixed greens, tuna, eggs, olives, anchovies & mustard vinaigrette ($15.75)

Try a variety of wraps (includes fruit or fries):  Thon Wrap ($13.75)--- Grilled Tuna, mixed greens, tomato & guacamole or A Merguez wrap ($13.75)-- Spicy Lamb Sausage with shallots, lettuce, tomato & cilantro sauce.

Don't worry if you're coming with friends who want a hamburger. They offer that too, for $10.75. it also comes with fries.  For another simple choice try the poulet (chicken) sandwich ($13.75).

End the meal with pastilla au lait. Your mouth will water after you enjoy layered crisp pastry sheets with sweet cream and nuts.
