Asian Flavors: A Flushing Walking Tour
Location:
Institute Of Culinary Education
50 West 23rd Street
New York, New York 10010
When: November 7, 2009
Starts at: 11:30 AM
This is not an all day event
Description:
Flushing is more varied and vibrant, more Hong Kong than Mott Street, a combination of familiar stores and the totally unfamiliar and exotic. Mary Ann Zimmerman, the author of an around-the-world cookbook that took her to 22 countries and food tour guide, will show you how to navigate these bewildering streets and introduce you to the wonders of Flushings Asian cuisine. You will explore the foods of northern China, incorporating dishes of the northern provinces, Peking, Manchuria, and Mongolia. You will explore Mongolian Hot Pot, her favorite Flushing restaurant for this DIY classic, and nosh on Peking duck sandwich (hold the sauce), a rice wrap, made-to-order dumplings, desserts, and more. The class meets at 11:30 AM in front of the Old Navy store (13602 Roosevelt Avenue. Take the 7 Train to Main Street, and exit at the end of the train).
