Lacordaire Academy Secondary Reviews

Not much improvement since new principal came. He is from a military background and does not seem to understand the needs of an all female environment. Although regular meetings with parents group occur nothing ever really changes. Academics could be more challenging and many free's in schedule. Some do not take gym or health because not enough students to form another class. No transportation for players on teams. Driven by either students or parents. Not many college courses offered nor AP classes. Looked at the Mt St Dominic should have gone there instead since this school does not deliver what it promises.

Overall curriculum is lagging. The small size is NOT exactly a positive. LIMITS the number of teachers, courses, classes and extracurriculars. Will have the same teachers for most subjects every year which is a limiting high school experience. Will result in a whole host of social problems due to class size. New administration has been slow in admitting problems and unresponsive to certain issues. Many have experienced phone calls being answered or acknowledged unless repeated calls are made. Small size does not always mean total immersion nor guaranteed mastery of academics. Daughter still needs tutoring which begs the question why is this not being addressed in school. Some sports and courses have been dropped during new administrations transition. Enrollment is on the decline.

Everyone has their own opinion. This school is terrific I'm very pleased with the teachers and Mr Morgan and also Mrs. Mazzari they do a wonderful job. A little ldiscipline doesn't hurt. Some people takle things the wrong way. Great school to all the staff and teachers keep up the great work that you do

I think Lacordaire secondary division has very good academics and a caring nurturing enviornment. The teachers for the most part really seem to care about the students as well as the administration. It does seem that there are some clicks among the students, and that can be frustrating for some that do not thrive in clicks. This goes on anywhere however, but perhaps more emphasis on inclusiveness toward all students could be implemented someway. I think myspace and texting have not been a good thing for our teens, they need to realize that what they post and send is for all to see, and can send a very negative image for them and their school. These are things all schools, and especially parents need to be aware of and address. To me though, Lacordaire is a productive and safe enviornment for our girls, much better than the public school system!

Since Mr. Morgan became head of the school it has not been the same. All he cares about is money and having a staff that could careless about the students and their well being. There are a few good teachers still working at the school but it is not the same. The girls use to be able to laugh and have smiles on their faces as they walked down the halls but now the girls are scare to even cough in the hallway since it could leave to them getting in trouble.

Excellent school -- and getting better. The new administration took over in July, 2007 and has had to resurrect a school that had fallen well below its past standards of excellence. Yes, changes were made, some which may have challenged tradition, but for the most part most have remained intact. Yes, tuition has gone up, but families are now getting their money's worth with improved academics, a stellar arts heater program, parent eacher conferences, and more. Is change ever easy? No, and no school is perfect. But considering what these folks have accomplished, they get my applause.

As a student here I would say to look somewhere else. The smallest is not a positive. It hinders alot of freedom and breathing room. The administration is like big brother watching every move and thus causing a secure, friendly, student wellness environment NOT to exist. Way too many 'favorites' with special rules exist.

Our daughter just completed her first year at the high school and we couldn't have been more pleased. The new principal has re-energized the school. The extra attention and nurturing environment was perfect for our daughter. If you are looking at high schools in the area, I would strongly recommend it.

A year as passed with the new principal and teachers and some positive changes have been implemented. Curriculum is on target and the students are in a supportive nurturing environment small enough for individual attention. Lacordaire is a secure school with a clear vision . It can supply all the ingredients necessary for well rounded young women upon graduation.

Although I treasure my memories at Lacordaire where I met many of my friends, I must admit that the education they provided was lacking. I had a few great teachers. I also had a few teachers who didn't seem qualified to teach at all. When I entered college, I found myself unprepared, even though I was ranked as one of the top students in my class and took all the honors and AP classes. The sports were a joke, the 'coaches' assigned to the teams were just whichever teacher volunteered to do the job. Great community but needs to work on being an actual school.

Lacordaire academy offers so many things, it is a great environment for young women that put education first, it has a family orient surrounding that allows all to grow, there is enough space for everyone to grow academically and socially this is my second year at Lacordaire and I love it. The social family events are elegant and quality that is why fundraiser are needed it not only buy down the cost it gives all the students and parent moments to remember. This is one best experience of my life that I hope will never end.

No p.e. Health is an assembly once a semester. sports are for those whose parents drive to games. Clubs are being eliminated due to cost conservation. Teaching is being transferred to on-line courses and computer sites to do at home. Average teachers and school produces Average SAT Scores. Needs new leadership... rumors of financial troubles persist even though fund raising has increased.

My daughter is finishing up her first year, and the school has been wonderful. She gets along with everyone, and there is a multitude of activities. A very good school!

i attended lacordaire academy from 2000-2004. i loved how close of a community it is. i had a second family at lacordaire. the techers where for the most part very helpful and willing to help and advice. the extracurriculars where always a lot of fun and easy to participate.

My daughter is a Jr. and I can say that I am very pleased with this school. Yes it has many problems just like any other school does. We just happen to know when things go wrong because with a small school you find out everything that goes wrong right away. And that is better than not knowing what is going on or pretending that its not. My daughter is getting an excellent education is taking college courses and is just about able to participate in any club, activity or sport that she chooses. The girls learn to get along with each other because they have to in a small school. The girls are from all backgrounds and they don't think they are better than each other. If you want your daughter to develop into an all around happy confident intelligent adult without being over pressured choose this small school.

I have to agree with the other posts. Look elsewhere. This school is nothing like it advertises. A BIG disappointment! With a new administration the school could flourish but as it is now, it is nothing special.

Lacordaire gives what you put into it. I graduated last year, and am currently at a great university. I was very well prepared for further education. I also scored in the 97th percentile on my SATs. Some people complain that it's not that great of a school, but, at least when I was there, those people were the ones that put next to nothing into their studies. If you care about your work enough to actually learn it for life and not just to pass the test, you can learn a lot at this school.

Not the place it used to be. Looking forward to June. No leadership from the proncipal, no guidance, no discipline. $10,000 a year could be spent differently. be careful. if there is no change at the top, this school will close.

A lot of broken promises. Curriculum has gotten very weak. Administration needs a major overhaul. My daughter received no guidance whatsoever during junior and senior years. What was once a very good college prep school is now a $10,000 a year high school. Looking forward to June. Do yourself a favor, look at the Mount or MKA.

Went in with high hopes. Some very capable teachers. Unfortunately, the best teacher left because the administration wouldn't support her charge of plagiarism against a student. Things went downhill from there. The curriculum has suffered with too many mediocre teachers. The SAT score have been dropping regularly. College guidance is non-existant.The admiinistration has completely lost touch and short of replacing the principal, this school is no longer a college prep school, instead, a $10,000 a year mediocre high school. Can't wait for June to get out. Sorry, can't recommend it to anyone. Check out the Mount or MKA, but stay away from this one.

Chose this high school based on its academic reputation, which is regarded to be very good. Have been quite disappointed. I Thought the small class size (school is very small:avg 18-25 students per grade) would be a great benefit for my daughter. Has turned out to be more of a hinderance. Cliques are rampant! And in such a small environment girls can easily, and often, feel left out. Academically, I was expecting much more. Many, many free periods in the girl's schedules, half-day dismissal every friday, and numerous days off makes one wonder how they can possibly cover all the material adequately. Seems a great part of the work must be covered at home, on their own. For the high tuition, really expected more. Only have 1 more year to go, but if I had to do it again, I would certainly do more serious comparison shopping.
