I earned a seat in their honors program, though maintaining it is far more difficult. Is it hard? Yes. Is It challenging? Yes. Does it prepare the students for life? Yes. I am proud to send my son there and I am proud that my second son is likely going there as well. It is refreshing to see in today's world, a school that holds the students accountable for their performance, much like a boss will hold his/her staff accountable. I was in the Honors program and there was a lot of work involved and at times it seemed ridiculous but now I realize that is was well worth it. Sea did a wonderful job of preparing me for college and I am so thankful to all of my teachers for doing such an excellent job. I received several college credits through Sea which were helpful in my college career. I think that I received the ultimate high school experience at Sea. It is a great place to be, the teachers are very helpful and there is a lot of school spirit. There are many clubs after school that are fun and easy to join. If your child complains the teachers think students 'don't have a life' they should be told that schoolwork is their life while in school. If he/she requires constant individual attention, perhaps a high-calibur private college-prep school is not appropriate. May I suggest a vocational school? Based on at least one of the student reviews posted to this site, I think they would fit in better there. Parents who coddle their children instead of encouraging them to strive for academic success are impeding their progress. Sea is a great school whose staff encourage diligence and individual responsibility. Those who cannot handle this no-nonsense approach to education should crawl back into their holes and not discourage others from attending. If a student wants to argue his grade for legitimate reasons-too bad-the teacher has the final word whether he/she is right or wrong. there is only peer tutoring which is okay but no help offered by teachers.I am not happy with the 'if you fail the first semester and dont bring up the average you are out in January'--i think as incoming freshman they need the time to acclimate to new surroundings and curriculums and the strictness of the school in general. I can not picture myself in any other school and I'm so glad that I chose Sea. It is tough academically, but I feel that I am very well prepared for college. The teachers are amazing and go out of their way to help anyone and everyone. The administration is pretty strict, but if you follow the rules you will do fine. The school is very welcoming, and I always feel like I can turn to anyone in the faculty or administration, if I need help with something whether it has to do with academics or not. These school is great if you are very social. Those not so social might struggle. My son plays baseball, football, hockey & basketball. I guess it depends on your child if they will be happy in Sea. I honestly love it and feel my kids were safe and learning a lot here. The teachers are ok, but I dont think they are worth 550 a month! The extracurricular activities are superb, though. Overall I think Sea is a great after school activity place but only an OK academic school. Many kids do not like the school because of the challenge. I think it is a great school because of the teachers. The school is safe and friendly and it has the most extracurricular activites on staten island, according to principal ansaldi. The teachers are always willing to help and the school is a great place to be because it has improved me spiritually, academically, and socially. The administration fails to give students individulaized attention and teachers tend to be judgemental and lack motivation. College preparation, in terms of AP course offerings and SAT preparation is virtually non existent. The athletics program is principal, and for a child not so athletically predisposed, they are invariably left behind. Students are typically 'of means' and ostracize those who are less fortunate.
