Les Enfants Montessori School Reviews

My child has been attending this school for over a year, and it has much to commend it, but I've grown weary of the disorganized administration and what I could consider an overall lack of communication about your child's development. I am in fact on this website now to look at alternatives to Les Enfants. The care is loving, it would seem, but parents are not included enough.

My husband and I absolutely love this school! Both our children attend the school and they love it too! My son started when he was only 19 months and his progress is unbelievable. The teachers are wonderful and dedicated to the kids and academically prepared. I cannot think of a better school for my kids to attend.

My toddler goes to school here, and I am very pleased with both her development, and the professionalism of the staff. My daughter loves the school.

This school provides a nurturing, yet stimulating environment for the children. The classrooms are beautiful and filled with engaging materials that help children learn through multiple strategies. There is violin, piano, dance and very strong academics that allow a child to master content while not feeling pushed. The school does have rules (which I've come to understand over the many years my kids have been there) that are there for safety reasons and to lessen unnecessary disruption from parents. If you're a parent who wants to be coddled, this is probably not the school for you. But if you want an excellent education for your child (even at 2 years old!), this school is a gem. The staff are kind and dedicated, and the children are happy! My eldest entered public school prepared beyond belief..she was miles ahead academically, with good ethics, thanks to Les Enfants.

My daughter will turn 4 next month; I have no words to describe how happy and pleased we are with the school. My daughter really feel s that her school is an extension of her home. She is almost reading and she knows so much for her age that you cannot believe! She is always happy! My husband and I like the curriculum, the environment, the teachers and the principal! This school is great for very young child as age 2. We highly recommend Les Enfantes School.

My 3.5 years old son goes there since he's 2. I chose this school after a long research in Astoria and Long Island city and I decided this was the one. Church daycares and mostly just daycares weren't enough for me because I'm a stay at home mom who believes that a child needs more than mommy love after he's 2. Therefore we started this school 5 days a week, from 8:30-3:30. The instutition, teachers, staff are just great, very helpful and friendly, both to my child and me. Academics are excellent and very discipline oriented.

We give this school an average rating for one reason: the academics are excellent (if a bit archaic,) but the administration is a disaster. The school is a paradox: it is dysfunctional-family-run operation by some of the most well-meaning people you will ever meet. It is probably worth mentioning that while several of the techers are not Montessori certified, the school does do it's best to adhere to Montessori pedagogical principles. If you manage to stay on the administration's good side, the school will do any and everything they can to provide your child with the best experience possible. If you fall out of favor, (and this can happen for no logocally discenable reason!) the administrators begin to act like jilted dubutantes. It's very bizarre... Our advice would be to give the school a try, and to approach the administartors and teachers with an open mind.

My son has been going to this school for a year now and I am amazed how much he has learnt. He is reading, writing, does advanced math and knows words in both Spanish and French. I would highly recommend this school.

Although my 4 yr old child has learned quite a bit in the first 4 months since he has started but the school is VERY unorganized, parents NEVER see the inside of the classrooms and rarely get a chance to meet the teachers. Communication with parents on the everything from changes in schedules to my childs development is horrible and archaic. This is by far the most unorganized school I have seen - I don't even know if my child has a cubby, at least I have never seen one! I will be taking my child out of the school in May and it is REALLY unfortunate since he is learning so much it is too bad everything else is a disaster. Not worth the cost, public school would be an even better bet. I hope they read these and improve for the future.

This school has been an excellent place for my son. He has excelled on his studies and is far advanced from children of my friends who go to public school. It is amazing the things he has learned in his few years. The environment is extremely safe and secure place and I feel my child is in excellent hands.

My daughter attended school for four months and every time I dropped her off I felt like I was dropping her off at a correctional facility. I was prohibited from entering my daughters classroom. The only time I was ever permitted to see the inside of the classroom was during the parent/teacher meeting (once). My daughter cried for months every morning when it came time to drop her off at school. My daughter may have learned a little in the few months she was there so I have no complaints about the teachers because I only met them once briefly.

My son has been a student for 2 1/2 years and the experience, on the whole, is very positive. Even though he is not yet 5 years old, his reading, writing and arithmetic skills are outstanding. His teachers have been first class and the program proved to be everything as advertised. The primary downside is the cost, which has risen each year. Another issue is the extras that get tacked on (music, dance) that don t seem to have any effect. (Or maybe that is genetic).

My Child was going to this school since she was 1 1/2 years old until she was 7 years old. I thought the school was the best school ever in reality it is not. I guess I did not know better, I should not have left her there all this time but I kept her there because of the school hours. It's good for working parents . I didn'tlike the fact the elementary class is mixed from first grade to 4th grade. The older kids are rude to the younger kids. there is no organization in this school. The school has potential to be good but it lacks organization and discipline. The director and her daughter are not easy to deal with. I think the school is too expensive. It is not worth it. Parents save your money for your kids college it's not that advance as it's portrait to be.

Our child went to school for 6 months. We had an extremely bad experience there. The principals were rude, we doubt any of [the teachers] had any idea about the 'montessori' approach. There was also a lack of love and warm attitude to the kids. Our child (who is otherwise very happy) became very stressed and developed asthma. We pulled out our child as soon as possible and we don't recommend the school to any parent.

This school has been a nightmare for the entire family. I would not waste my money on this school. It's not worth it! The curriculum is Lucy-goosey and is not consistent. There is absolutely no open door policy. You drop your child off and the Director is very sensitive to you checking on your child. That was always very suspicious to my husband and I. Your best bet is to look for a more 'professional' and nurturing environment for your child.

My daughter has been at Les Enfant for 6 years and we have had nothing but good experiences. The school teaches a traditional Montessori method and is very challenging. She is 2 to 3 grade levels above her peers in other schools. We met a lot of nice kids and parents. Excellent school, a real gem in Astoria.

I believe that the teachers are the best in this school they do a wonderful job with the classroom and also the children, the only thing is that I would like to see them get more help by having more than 2 teachers in a large classroom full of children. On the other hand the principal does not know how to talk, she can be very very rude.

My son has been attending for over a year and he has benefited from the Montessori curriculem and the very kind loving teacher he has had since starting. By 3 he knew his letters and numbers, he was familiear with all of the world's oceans and continents and his social skills had advanced a great deal. With that said, the director is difficult to deal with and parent-school communication is really lacking. Parents are often left guessing at the simplest of things. I am impressed with my son's advancement, but for PreK next year, he will go to a more traditional parochial school.

I had a tour of the school and felt very rushed through the process. The administrator left me to deal with another parent appointment. No discount for multiple siblings. The hallways were dark. The cafeteria area had no windows. I am a Montessori teacher/parent and I was not impressed.

My child is currently enrolled in the program, but I am planning to pull him out soon. I didn't like thier abrupt separathion method, and the lack of transparency. Parents are not allowed to see how the class is progressing, absolutely no parents participation in the classroom, and we didn't receive any report about my son during the 7 months participation. If you find a way to communicating with the school director from the early on, you and your child may be able to receive a preferable treatment, otherwise you have to bear with their rudeness. One of the other things to note is even they are supposed to be a non religious school, the highlight of their Holliday party was Nativity sean played by children. Their teacher turn around rate is very high; their toddler class teacher changes every semester.

The academic program is very good due to the fact it is intense and Montessori oriented. The teachers are well educated and very dedicated to the students. The extra activities are beginning to take shapes; the school now has exercise classes and music class. I like the fact it s a small school and the owners are extremely involved and open to talk to parents at all times. The parents are extremely involved, to the point of creating a parents association. Due to the schedule flexibility and extensiveness, it s the perfect school to me and my child.

I believe this school to be an excellent resource in the Astoria area and believe the environment to be positive and the academics to be top notch. The level of parent involvement has increased dramatically this past year and the school has prospered because due to this. The music and arts areas are strong, but more sports or extracurricular offerings could be an added benefit. The only negative aspect that I'll mention here is the requirement of jumpers as part of the uniform for girls. I believe it hinders thier movement and is not appropriate for girls so young. (I'm referring to preschool age).
