Bloomfield Middle School Reviews

Both myself and many other parents would love to see BMS have their own athletic teams. It is so very important to put back BMS sports. Hopefully this will be back by the time my younger children attend BMS.

As a teacher in this school since it's inception, it has never been better. Morale is at an all time high, staff and students are greeted by administration every morning with a smile and hello, which starts the day on the right foot. My colleagues are overworked but that has never changed. The children are being held directly responsible, as are their parents. That's a welcome change. I must agree with all the student posts here, that the lockers are an eyesore, an embarrassment and simply don't work! The H and S had done an amazing job in replacing the original 60 year old auditorium seats. Maybe the BOE should step up and replace the lockers?

i think that this school is the best school my daughter has ever been in

Being at the Bloomfield Middle School has taught me a lot. It's taught me to be more responsible. What I don't like about my bms is that we don't have showers in the locker rooms... my locker [in general] seems to be fine. Maybe thats because I'm in the newer wing. Our new principle is so nice and is very motivating. Especially considering with finals coming up next week. Mr. B isn't even that bad as everyone thinks he is. All he is trying to do is making us face what the real world is. I will always remember this school and remember how much it has taught me to be a lot more responsible.

On Thursday, Mr. G. got David Tyree of the Giants to talk to us about being successful. It was a lot of fun and he was cool. He really encouraged us to do better every day. BMS is s great school except for the lockers! :)

Im a student at BMS and I think the school is amazing. The principal, Mr.G is awesome. Everyone likes him. He made a lot of good changes. Mr.B, the vice principal, is cool too. The only problem would be the old lockers but over all the teachers are really nice and the students are nice too. I really like the school

My daughter seems for the most part to like all of her teachers. She is getting good grades A's and B's . The things she has not been happy with are the Crowding, the jammed and broken lockers, and yes it was a project getting it fixed she went most of the school year with a broken one. The unhealthy school lunches, and more importantly the fact that it is a 2 year school and she hasn't been able to get extra curricular activities like choir during the school day and nothing sports wise which she could participate in after school. Thats upsetting even after calls to her counselor we were told it was too late. The school has its pluses and minues. I like the idea of 2 teachers in a classroom so the students can get more help. Main problem Over Crowded!@! Bloomfield needs another middle school .

The middle school is all and all okay. With the new principal and scheduling things were kinda messed up in the beginning of the year. The older lockers tend to cave in and sometimes don't open. its hard to find a janitor when you need one. The school nurses aren't very kind when you have a problem. In the summer it gets super hot and uncomfortable in the classrooms due to no air conditioning. Some windows don't even open. Some of the teachers aren't very good at controlling the classes and overall: teaching. zi hope future students like it more then i do, and thats all i can say.

There seems to be a lack of overall communication between the teachers and administrators. My child is an excellent student but was denied honors classes because she fell short of the 250 mark on the NJASK test. Yet her math average was well above the 100% mark. We were told even though she was completely bored in her regular class that the school didn't want to let her try the honors class for fear she would fail. So basically, she was discouraged from trying harder. Eventually, after a montha nad a half of pushing, my husband and I got her into the honors math class. Now my child tells me it's no different than her regular math class. I'm very disappointed with the school. It's sad because I grew up in this town and went to the same school and it was wonderful back in the mid-1980's.

Well it was BTS night 9/2008 last night at BMS, my spouse & i were very impressed with the changes the new principal made considering the mad house it was last year, maybe that's all BMS needed was a firm leader, hats off to Mr G

I come to this school and it's horrible.' The classes are packed, loud, and many teachers can't get control of the class. My spanish class at the beginning of the year had 50 kids in it, some one messed up there, and i didn't start doing work until two weeks later. Two weeks worth of period 7, wasted. Also my locker is always getting jammed, and I can never find a janitor. This school has the same lockers as when my dad came here. The teachers are insane, and so are the kids. It's extremely hot and most classes have no air condition. Everything about this schoolis horrible.

I've been a teacher at BMS for many years. There are problems inherent in any building with 1,000 adolescents, but my experience is that the very vast majority of students are wonderful as is the staff. It's easy to criticize. I'd love to see some parents and students post here who had positive experiences. I hear about them all the time.

Bloomfield Middle School has a very diverse population. Children with involved parents will do just fine there. My two daughters went through the school and had very positive experiences. I'd put them up against any kids from any of the surrounding communities, regardless of their economic status. They have had wide exposure to many different cultures and are very independent. Bloomfield has many locals who can't bear the fact that the population is changing. They are frighten of people who are not just like them. They are not doing their kids any favors by perpetuating that fear.

I love this school newcomers should try this school out even though i have been there for 1 year its a really great school & its very safe

My child 1st year at the middle school. I've have made several attemps to talk to the guidance counsler or the principal at this school and no one ever returns your phone calls. You ask to leave message with secretaries and the just give the voice mail. I never had this problem when my child when they attend elementary school.

I hate this school, its the worst ever. The pricipal doesn't care about the problems we go through. Its too crowed and some classrooms don't have air conditioner. I had two worst years in that middle school, theres a lot of ghetto people and lots of drama to deal with. The students are out of controlled and the sercurity is not that good. Fights happen all the time for the dumest reasons. trust me, don't send your kids there. When i go to that school, im unhappy. I bet BHS is worst....

I've had two children go through Bloomfield Middle School and considered it a terrible experience for them. The school is very overcrowded. There are presently over 1000 children in the school, way more than it was built for. There are no plans for expanding the school any further but the enrollment keeps climbing. The principal is totally out of touch. The discipline is terrible. The teacher turnover is very high and the school is freezing in the winter and roasting in the summer. The district has a new superintendent and hopefully he will do something about this mess, until then send your kids elsewhere!!!

BMS is an okay school.I had a good time there but the staff is not the best. is The principal is horrible she does not care about anything ever since she came there everything in that school went downhill. The students do not care about anything they just hang in the halls and that school is crowded so the students that want to get to class are late. There were some good teachers and some bad teachers. Some teach you everything that is in the ciriculum and others didn't. The guidance counslers are not fair to all their students and they don't do nothing for the students either. Some students in the school have air conditioned rooms and the others didn't.

Horrible school. Students are uncontrolled and act 'ghetto.' Principal and her cronies lack caring abilities. Some parts of building have NO aircondtiong providing your child for an in-class sauna. The admistration favor certain people and allow their students to attend certain classes while some aren't. Worst two years of my child's education. Advice? Private school.

Good school. A little too crowded but otherwise okay.

I have 2 daughters who attended BMS, I feel that there is not much control over the kids, the teachers somehow are afraid to stop the kids from annoying other kids, and the material that they are learning are not of academic nature, they are mostly on life and how to function in life like they are all retarded and need help in that catagory. the bad kids did not leave the good kids any chance to develop like they should academically. the teachers are very laid back about teaching anything that is required to succeed in college and in career building.

I went to the middle school 4 years ago. When we got the new Principal Ms. Pelican, everything went downhill from there. Extra curriculars were being cut. The music program, which used to be really good, is suffering because they put it last. I went there for a performance because the choir goes there to sing once a year. These kids were so quiet you could here a pin drop. They looked scared. Not one of them was turning to a friend to smile or make quick comment, it was like they were scared for their lives. The prinicpal kept reminding them about the discipline assembly a week earlier. Do not enroll your kids in the middle school. Take them somewhere else for two years and bring them back to BHS. BHS is great.

My daughter went to BMS and it was the worst two years of our lives. She felt she needed to hang with the tough kids because she was afraid of going there. My son is not going there in 3 years if I can help it. Fortunately my daughter is in BHS now and it is much better than BMS. Still I have a problem with the amount of kids that really don't belong there.

I have had 2 children go through this school and have been very impressed with it. The teachers are wonderful. The principal keeps the children in line. This school deserves praise. They have alot, educationally to offer. I feel its a very safe environment for your children.

I am a 13 year old that attends this wonderful school. I think it is a safe school and the students get a good education. Teachers provide after school clubs for the students and discipline here is great. I love the Bloomfield Middle School.

My experience with this school left a bad taste in my mouth. From the way students are treated to the way staff responds to your request. From a parent with a learning disabled child this school needs help. For two years my pleadings went unanswered and still my child went without help. Meetings with the counselor left me dry. No one knew what to do, two many children not enough time or money. Where does our money go, When a child in the 7th and 8th grade has a reading problem but spends time in Advisory or any other class playing card games. Instead of helping the student they placated them with games. I was totally disappointed.
