Both of my children go here and I couldn't be happier with the school, faculty, and the programs/activities. I suppose the rank is based mostly on standardized test scores, but there's more to learning than just one big test every year! The half-day kindergarten program is a little weak, but all the grades after that are top-notch. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this school.” Posted By: parent Quality Score: decline 2008-09-10 “My daughter came from a private school to Demarest and I though that the change was going to be difficult, but the teachers and the principal has made it easy for her to adapt. My daughter enjoys going to school at Demarest. The only cavoit I have is with the afterschool program. It is sponsored by Montclair YMCA and they only accept monthly membership of $220 for aftercare and $100 per month for before care. Some parents may need this service for an hour or several days a week and the cost is steep. This school is amazing and the teachers are AWESOME! They go above and beyond their duties. I love that there are so many extracurricular activities the children can participate in. I also love that the children take so many 'special' classes. The community of teachers, parents and principal are supportive and welcoming. I am further impressed by the extracurricular activities offered and the opportunities for the children to take on extra learning. At the first HSA meeting the parents - leaders were helpful and encouraged feedback and suggestions from the parent body. The teachers that I have encountered are respected and seem to care deeply about the child's emotional well being as well as how they fare educationally.
