North Bergen High School Reviews

i attended this hs last year abd I have to say that this school is great. there's discipline and almost every teache is your friend

My daughter just started as a freshman at North Bergen High School. I attended Parents Orientation and I must say that I was really impressed to hear what I heard about the discipline, the uniforms coming up next year and how the school did in the state test in Language Arts and Math. I know that I made the right decision by having my daughter attend NBHS rather than a Catholic High School. NBHS will prepare her for the real world. I am happy with our decision and she is extremely happy with her teachers and the school in general...I too was also very nervous on her first day.....

I am a senior at NBHS..it is a very good school it gives everyone a opportunity to be successful!..if you want to be a great student you can do it at this school!

Im a junior at North Bergen High.I've been attending this school since my freshman yr.I think this school is way overcrowded. This year 800 freshman entered our school. The school buses are packed the hallways are packed.

We moved from long island to new jersey, and my son is attending 9 grade, until now he is doing great, what it really surprise me as a parent is the way they keep everything in order, strict discipline, very nice.

My daughter currently is attending North Bergen High School and from my point of view, it is not as bad as some people want to make it seem. I mean, sure there may be some administrative issues involved, but all schools, or at least most of them have some. It is up to the student to determine what their performance in school will look like. All schools have high and low performing students enrolled.

I am very happy with this school.I was concerned because the middle schools are corrupt so i got worried about the high school but my child really surprised me.He went from a d average in middle school to a b average in high school.I never knew myself he would do this well.I would highly recommend this school as he is a sports player (very devoted) and still manages to get good grades. He does admit that it is overcrowded, but also admits that the teachers are great and treat the students like individuals, not numbers.Once again,i would highly recommend this school to any parent.I can't wait to see the school results he brings home this year as he is entering his junior year.

Grade A school with Grade A teachers

Great school with a diverse teaching core as well as student body. They excel in academics, sports, and recreation.

Great academic program. Wide varieety of extracurricular activities.

The only problem with this school is the over crowding. Even with this problem the students are pretty well behaved and abide by the school rules and policys. The teachers I find them to really put in there time with any student that asks or wants help. The extracurriclar activities are a great asset to this school. Along with haveing a good sports program the coaches do make sure that all athletes keep there grades up which I think is the most important.

This school is very overcrowded. Children from 9th grade and up get hurt everyday! This is absurd. I would suggest to every parent not to let any of your children or children that you know attend this school! It is a very uncurricular school and the staff is rude to the kids. Take my word for it! Concerned Parent, Kathy Santoni

They are great in the sports. Classrooms are overcrowded.

Level of parent involvement is low and the classes are over crowded. Nonethless, teachers do a very good job in teaching with the available resources they have. Crime is a little high and the kids can deinitly use better food in the cafeteria.

North Bergen High School offers no Cultural or Performing Arts of any kind. The teachers are mediocre. They explain nor teach anything to your child. The students act like animals as if they were never taught basic manners at home - tells you alot about the type of parents - non involved. The school does not promote parent involvement. They really could care less if your child learns or not. However, should your child get sick and miss more than 7 days of school, you can bet you'll be in court and before a judge in no time. If you have a choice - don't send your child here.

I currently atten NBHS and I hate it. Sports are corrupt and there isn't enough electives. The school is too small for all its students, we all struggle finding were to sit during lunch time. Some teachers grade according to wether they like and know the student, not what he or she can do grade wise. I think the best years to come is when I graduate in 1 1/2 years. Some teachers are great and love their jobs but not all. Security guards are perverts looking at girls and doing a bad job.

I go to NBHS. There are many things wrong with this school. #1 Over-population, Mayor Sacco and company refuse to build an annex to fit at least 800-1000 students. and #2 Student Body, These kids are ignorant, The Science Dept. is great. Mr.Gilbarty the science teacher is incredible. and the P.E classes are also excellent. the leadership is good except for the Principals. VP'S are great. The football program is good but some of the 'gangster kids' have spoiled it a bit.

I attended North Bergen High School, and I always thought the teachers were caring and dedicated. I was well prepared when I left NBHS and started school in Florida in my senior year where I graduated with honors. You are complaining about someone not teaching you MLA style; why weren't you researching what you needed to know in order to do well in college? You get what you put into anything. I did fine, overpopulation or not. I am a college English professor at a private college in San Diego;my friends, also NB graduates, turned out ok: the vice-president of a major corporation, a haute couture fashion model, and an elementary school teacher to name a few.

Are we talking about the same school here? Over population isn't the only issue. This school has lack of proper administration. Where is the funding for the school going? Horrible technology and lack of resources for its students. Not enough languages are offered. The history department seems to be the most organized. Lack of extracurricular activates that cater to the student body. The cafeteria won't hold everyone and some must stand. The worst is the student body. Many of us decided that we don't want our children or any generation attending this school, for the sake of their future. This school is in dire need of reform.

It does not help the art or music program. Classes are about 35 children and 1 teacher. Classes are very basic and not many electives. Principal and teachers do not care about students. They only care about getting paid. Lunch food is inedible. I am glad I am in a college that lets us use the media center without being harassed by unhappy employees. The Media Center is for the students. They should be free to use it when they want without having to explain themselves!

I am currently a college student. I have a 3.5 GPA. My first semester as a freshman in college I struggled, because North Bergen High School did not prepare me for college or success. Something as simple as MLA format, which is a standard for any paper, was never taught. Basics that are essential to succeed, NB falls short. If not for my own perseverance, I would not be producing good marks. I urge parents who have resources to think twice before sending their child through the North Bergen education system.

I went to north bergen high school my 9 th grade year, and honeslty my teachers showed a true passion for what they did. They did nothing but work their hardest and to all their ablities to help us students succeed. Yet its is a great over populated school... its still maintain its one purpose, and that is to educate us young adults to have a better future.

Great School.Great Teachers. The only problem the the overpopulation.

I am a student of the graduating class of '04. North Bergen, I believe has fully prepared me for the world. It is an great school for children to be educated in!

I feel that n.b. high has gone down hill in the last few years. to the point that I would not want my son going there the way my oldest daughter did. seeing the diferance in the last few years the only thing that would be a positive experiance for my son would be the music department which is still great.

this school has a great math department, and great extracurricular activities
