New Utrecht High School Reviews

I graduated not even a week ago and I'm missing NUHS already. All of my teachers were extremely helpful and if you do your work, you get what you deserve. The deans don't allow electronics because they're disruptive in class. I actually agree with the policy because I've had my classes disrupted before by ringtones and loud music from headphones. When you really just want to learn and graduate, you'll find that you won't appreciate the disruptions. As for the hats and other stuff, it's most likely related to gang activity and they just want to avoid conflict. Think about it: would you rather take off your hat or have a gang war in the middle of your school day? As for the teachers and staff, they're just too great. You can't expect all of them to care but if you do, they definitely will. A billion stars.

I'm totally agree with you! I'm a senior at new Utrecht High School too. Yeah, it is really rare that you'll find a good teacher! But most of my teachers were good. Fortunately!!! As for for deans, it is really like in jail! You can't do anything there: no cell phones, no hats, no mp3 players or iPods, etc. But it's a big school and you can find a lot of friends of all nationalities! I wouldn't say to change school if you have a chance. No! Just get used to it! So, yeah! Just go to this school and you'll see what am I talking about!

I am a senior at this school and I am glad to say that I will never see New Utrecht again. If your lucky, you'll get a teacher that actually cares about your school work. Most teachers just gave up and don't care if you even come to school. And the rest of the staff, such as the deans and the security officers, make New Utrecht like a jail. If you have a choice, choose another school to go to.

I am the grandparent of a sophmore student and extremely interested in following her progress in school. The only reason I rate NUHS with four stars is because it's facilities are old. But, make no mistake in spite of the shortcomiongs of the facilites my granddaughter has the benefit of a network of caring teachers and admistrators that move mountains for you. For those that need it there is tutoring in every subject all day long and a diverse sports program. At New Utrecht HS, if your child is not reaching his/her potential it is because they're not really trying.

This is my sons second year at this school the teachers are on top of them! I have never seen such caring staff at a school. His Guidance Counselor is the best! And the FOOTBALL COACHES both J.V. and VARSITY are helping me to mold my son into a fine young man! GO UTES!

school needs more funding to support itself. the students are smart, but the classes they have, can be better, more ap classes maybe.

My daughter is in junior year in the honors program. Coming out of MS 201, with an above 90 average she could have gone to Midwood but she chose New utrecht because she can walk there in 10 minutes, it has a swimming pool, and the honors program is considered to be good. She has loved her time there. She has found many freinds from diverse backgrounds, she has already completed 8 regents and 2 AP courses and taken her SAT. We all feel that she will be well-prepared for college. Incidentally, earlier this year, she lost her grandmother and missed some school and her teachers were very understanding and helpful.

The school is great and safe and most people there are nice and helpfull but the school needs to be much more cleaner because i see roches, spilled drinks, and dirt all around the shool. also the school needs to be repainted because the paint they have now is dirty, old, and unwelcomeing. Most of the peole are really great and in the outside looks like a good school but wen u go in it dont really seem like it but it really is a great school. they got many programs, i should know i go there, and although this is my first year there i already love it.

My son was accepted to Brooklyn Tech but wanted a short commute. So we sent him to New Utrecht. He has never been happier and has done very well so far. He is in his second year and we are very happy with his progress. The school environment is very supportive as are his classmates and they are all very wonderful young adults and I will add they are not all from the honors program. They have a team spirit I have never seen before. We love New Utrecht thank goodness it is our zoned school I will be sending my other 2 children there without a doubt.

Long time ago, I heard its a pretty good high school but for now...no way... it is one of the worst high schools that students would go to ..

this school needs a total overhaul in every aspect and area. The administration does nothig to address the problems of the school and students. students are never made to feel welcome.

I love this school and I would not change it to go to any other one. At first I had my doubts but I have loved it for my freshman year and I'm sure I'll love it for my sophomore one too.

My Autistic son attends and is thrilled to be a student at New Utrecht. His intellegence scores went up, his social skills have improved and his confidence is growing. The students treat him as an equal and have made his High School experience a joy.

This school is one of the best schools you can go to. It has plenty of activities to keep the students bus y. This school has helped my 2 sons to pass and get accepted into Cornell University and the other one is in Harvard. This is one of best schools in Brooklyn. I think that any child can be somebody at this school. My twin boys are the class of 07

I will soon be a junior at NUHS. At first, I thought it would be a problem for me to go there. I bring home 85+% tests to show my parents. I've passed all of my regents. I don't fight. I don't drink/smoke. The school is nothing like what I had thought it would be. It's safe, clean, and fun. The students here are friendly and the teachers are very encouraging. I stay involved in extracurricular activities. New Utrecht has taught me so much, and I'm looking forward to the next two school years.

My daughter is a freshman in New Utrecht. The year is almost over and she will be a sophomore in September. She told me that she loves New Utrecht HS. At first, she said he hated this school but then she said it was really fun. I would like to recommend this school to other students. It's a very fun school. There is so many different sports to take. There is a lot of teachers that would love to tutor students. My daughter will be taking the living environment and math A regents in June. She goes to tutoring and is doing quite well. At first, she never had confidence in herself and seem to fail english class. But her teacher supported her and she is improving.

I am a freshman at New Utrecht. During the first semester, I was very disappointed on going to this school. I've always dreamt on going to Midwood HS. But my mother prefers New Utrecht. I was mad at first. As the school days pass, I seem to enjoy it at New Utrecht. The second semester is almost over now and I will be taking two regents. My teachers try their best to encourage their students to have confidence in themselves. I am one of them that has inspired my teachers with the confidence I earned. I love New Utrecht HS!

My son attends this school and I am very disappointed.I do not recommend this school at all. They have teachers there that either can't control the class.

Avoid this school like if you can. Overall accademics are week and most teachers are apathetic. There are a few carring and interested instructors, but overall not a good choice.

This school is absolutely wonderful. In order to get the full benefits, a child must committ themselves whole heartedly and take advantage of all the programs offered.

I am a teacher at New Utrecht High School. It is a very well-run school with good administration. People in my department are very kind and caring with the students. There are many other good people at the school too. I have met very few people that I don't like. Academically we are slightly above average for New York City and are viewed as a great alternative to many neighborhood high schools that have problems. Our school is clean and has quiet, safe hallways. The population is ethnically diverse. We have a sports medicine program which attracts students. Although Benson Hurst is not 100% crime free, I always feel safe there.

My son seems happy. His grades are pretty good. He's on the football team; seems like football has become a big part of his life. He comes home, late sometimes from practice, and does his homework. I am real proud of him. I thank all of his teachers and the guidance counselors for helping him along.

From what I have seen this is not a good school my daughter has been enrolled for two years she hates it there she doesn't want to get up and go to school because she doesn't like it there. There are too many children in one classroom. I have had conversations with teachers and other officials from the school one teacher said I told them that I was taking my daughter out of school and her guidance counselor told me that she will not bend over backwards for my child. I highly recommend not to send your child there because they will be unhappy and want to quit school.
