P.S. 121 the Throop School Reviews

My son is in 2nd grade G&T class. I like this School a lot. As someone mentioned, Principal gives 125% of herself. She is there in all the functions, meetings. My son's teachers both in 1st and 2nd grade are excellent. Though my son was the first batch of G&T, I did not see any lack of resources. Principal along with support from parents are trying their best to get the Technology grant for the whole School. Entire staff is very approachable. I definitely recommend this school to everyone.

my daughter is in the gift class of this school. She has the most wonderful teacher I ever know. We parents get frequent emails, letters and meetings to communicate with teachers and principal. The homework is challenging. School staffs are warm and helpful. The principal apparently works hard to get resources for providing free aftershool programs, improving school's hardwares. I think, PS121 is a pearl in the bronx public school It is a excellent and safe place.

great school the principal gets involves in everything the afterschool program is great and well organized. The GT program is great and keeps the parents informed.

My grandson is in pre k and so far we are having a great experience. He is learning alot. The teacher Ms Magnotta is very dedicated to the children. The principal gives 125% of herself. The rest of the administration is always eager to help. School is a safe nuturing enviornment filled with positive character building posters all over the school, just cant say enough. you must visit this school yourself.

This school is excellent at making sure your children really learn. We need to continue to support the Principal, Teachers and Staff in order for our children to continue the path they are going.

Although I loved PS 121's Family Feeling, I have to admit the students just werent challenged enough. As a mother I appreciated my child going to a school where he & I both felt safe so I kept him there from k-5, unfortunately, I now realize that PS 121 didnt do anything to prep my child for Jr. high and it seems as if he has been thrown into a curriculum that is far left of what was 'taught' in Elem. PS 121 has to do a much better job at preparing the children for the higher grades.

PS 121 is a great school with excellent leadership.

Principal Donnelly and her entire staff are caring and dedicated professionals. The quality of the education is better than average, considering what is available to children located in the NE Bronx, NY. The teachers are dedicated. The only problem that I have seen with the school is the sudden influx of children being transferred to the school. Ms. Donnelly, thus far, has risen to the occassion & has been working with student/parents (both old & new) to make sure everyone is on the same page & are receiving the best education possible. It is a

Mrs Donnelly,& Mrs Kelly are great team Leaders, and the staff is just wonderful. The Parent Coordinator Ms.Bruson is the Greatest, any informaition that you need as parent she is great at making sure that you stay well informed. The PTA President has been Great! she will be missed next year. I just Love The School Pledge, and Personnal Code that is recited every morning by the students, and the faculty, and I one of those parents that stop, and recite the pledge, when I am in the Building. Must not foget about school safety, Officer Perez is very friendly, and respectful Most of time he is seated in the main Lobby ~ I am not just saying this because All Three of my Daughters are Super Throopers! And they have a Tee shirt to prove that! LOL In addition they have been Student of the Week!

My son has been attending this school since kindergarden, he is in the third grade now. This is a great school, the principal is very involved and knows the names of almost all the children and she knows exaclty who you are the parent of. The teachers are very friendly, they send home letters telling you what they are learning and their process. However, there are too many children, my son gets picked on a lot, and there's so much teachers 'can' do. My son need EXTRA help(he is not learning sufficiently), so I'm sad to say I have to transfer my son to a private school with less children in the class, so he gets the attention and help he NEEDS.

My daughter attends Pre-K and I feel that she is getting the best start I could hope for. Her Teacher is vibrant and caring and knows how to reach the kids. They enjoy school and are always excited about being there. They also have a computer in the classroom which they use and there are always pictures of the kids and their projects that get sent home so we know what they are doing. At the same time their is a sense of pride when my daughter comes home and shows me everything she has done. The school has a personal code and a school code that teaches them self respect, respect for the school and respect for others. I feel that it is a safe, clean, and caring, environment. The teachers are very compassionate and available. We are having the best experience possible.

My son has made such advancements since being enrolled in this school. The teachers and staff are very dedicated to the children and parents of this school and all work hard to provide a high quality education.

I am a parent of a Kindergartener and am pleased to say this is one of the best schools in the Bronx. The principal has served this school for 10 years and is respected, admired, and loved by the parent/school community. She chooses staff that is invested and concerned about the school and students. They do an excellent job of keeping parents informed and involved by sending monthly newsletters describing what each grade has worked on that month, sending flyers about upcoming events, news, workshops, and meetings, and sending emails to those parents who submit their addresses. This school was selected to be part of a unique, nationwide music program called Education Through Music and 5th graders compete in ballroom dancing. The school is well maintained, artwork covers all surfaces, staff is friendly. However, there are limited afterschool activities and there is only one security officer assigned for over 700 students.

My son just started to attend the school last year and so far I love the way the school is run. The principal placed a mandetarie uniform the school, this way parents do not have to worry about what the child wears or being an outcast like most schools. This gives all students time to focus on their school work and not fashion. The principal is very involved in the running of the school and that way she knows what is going on. They have all the activities to help your child succeed in passing the state test. As a parent I am very pleased with the school and recommed the school to all parents.

There is not enough parent involvemnet, and input at this school. There is also overall negative behavorial problems with many students. The prinicipal is extremely slow in reacting to most issues. She uses her own selective process to solve problems-which may or may not resolve the issues. The curriculum is in my opinion and many other parents whom I've spoken with is not challenging enough. The lessons are not taught properly for the students to have an overall comprehension of the subject that is been taught. Teachers time are wantonly spent on attempting to resolve and diffuse behavorial issues in the classroom setting, instead of education our children. Parents, teachers, and students all need a voice. Our goal is to educate our children to the highest standards possible, so they can be prepared to succeed in the real world when they come of age. Educate! Don't just faciliate!
