New York City New York Sports
In 2015, NYC welcomes a new professional sports team to the New York City Football Club (NYFC) and its new stadium, Yankee Stadium.
The New York City Football Club (NYFC), formerly known as MetroStars, was founded in 1996 and plays at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, which was historically home to the New Jersey Nets basketball team of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The team played in New Jersey from 1977 to 2012, but moved from Long Island to Brooklyn, where it became the Brooklyn Nets, a professional football team in Major League Baseball (MLB). Originally, the team was called the New Jersey NBA Nets because it was based on the Long Island's New York Nets. After officially returning to its roots as a "New York" team by moving to Brooklyn, it has officially been called "NYFC" since its inception.
New York was also once home to the New York Cosmos, which was housed at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, home of Major League Soccer (MLS) team, the Brooklyn Nets.
Finally, New York City runners are encouraged to even participate in the New York City Marathon, the largest marathon in the world, which takes place every November. Seeing the Yankees play at Yankee Stadium and the Giants play at the Meadowlands and Sinatra's "New York, New Yorker" is a must-see - for anyone who needs to see it, along with the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building. The Yankees won the World Series, but I can't even remember a game lost, I just remember leaving the stadium after the game.
See NYC's best football team in action at MetLife Stadium and check out the schedule of the New York Giants. Get tickets to the New Jersey Giants and see the American football teams of NYC and the best baseball games at Yankee Stadium. Buy tickets for the NYC Jets and let the New Yorkers play football with the Jets on Sunday night or catch the New England Patriots in every action.
Look at the New York Rangers today and watch them beat their opponents at Madison Square Garden. If you're one of the New Yorkers who show up in New Jersey hoping to see a hockey game, the best thing to do is go to Yankee Stadium for the Rangers "home game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night or watch their upcoming game at Barclays Center.
If you want your New York basketball stop to be a success - away from a history-making and a little showbusiness - you can do a lot wrong with the Knicks. If you're a fan of the professional game but prefer a raw passion for college basketball, then New York City has something for you.
New York has a strong connection to sport - four major sports leagues are based in New York, and protecting that relationship is paramount. As you would expect from a city with such a long history of professional sport and such a rich sporting history, it is also home to a number of great sports teams.
It's not uncommon to play six days a week, with the New York Yankees, New Jersey Devils and New England Patriots all playing in the Big Apple.
New York has reached the WNBA Finals four times but has never won a title. The last championship came in 2011, when the New York Giants won Super Bowl XLVI against the Patriots. They have also been to the NBA Finals four times, with the NY Knicks the first and last. The fans sell the Garden every single game, play 41 games a year, whether it's a first or a last game, and they're always in the playoffs, even if they don't play all their games at Madison Square Garden as they do in other cities.
The Knicks play at Madison Square Garden, while the Nets are at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn. The Mets and Yankees are the most famous professional baseball teams in New York City, but two others play within the city limits: The Mets - Brooklyn Cyclones and the Yankees (just think). They hold stakes in DraftKings and FanDuel and also have a partnership with the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League (NHL).
As football's popularity in the United States has grown, New York has its own Major League Soccer team, NYCFC, the second largest professional football team in America, joining the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League (NHL) and the New York Red Bulls, who play across the river in Harrison, New Jersey. The New York Red Bulls team also plays at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn and Yankee Stadium in Manhattan.
Super Bowl 2014 (XLVIII) at Metlife Stadium in New York City will be the second Super Bowl in New York City after the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL) in 2010. It is also in the process of winning an NBA team, with the Jets moving from New Jersey to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and Yankee Stadium, America's second-largest football stadium. The course will take in all five boroughs of New York and will take in many of their landmarks, from the Empire State Building in Manhattan to Madison Square Garden.
